In September 2004 I visited South Africa for about a week before going to Namibia. So I did not see a lot of the country, but enough to have a positive impression.

Penguin colony at Boulders Beach We arrived in Cape Town and from there visited the Cape of Good Hope. On the way to the Cape we visited the Penguin colony at Boulders Beach. It was amazing to see these funny creatures walk and swim.

Leaving Cape Town to travel up north we first stopped at the Ceder Mountains to set up camp. The next stop was Augrabies Falls Park. As the name suggests, there is a waterfall. Here I went canoing on the Orange river, walking and mountain biking. It was great seeing our first spingbok while biking through the park.

Our final campsite before entering Namibia was set up in Kgalagadi (Kalahari Gemsbok) Park. The first of the big five animals we saw on the gamedrive where lions. They were lying just 15 meters from our truck. It must have been lunch time, they were eating a Gemsbok at the time. A great experience seeing this so close. We did see more wildlife, but the lions were the high point of the day.

The next day we left South Africa at Rietfontein to continue our trip in Namibia.

I made this trip with Sawadee.
